THE MINISTRY OF MARRIAGE: A DIVINE REFLECTION OF CHRIST AND THE CHURCH

Introduction

Marriage, in its truest and most profound sense, is far more than a social contract or a romantic partnership. It is a sacred institution that is divinely ordained. Marriage serves as a living, breathing reflection of the most glorious union in all of creation: the eternal relationship between the Lord Jesus Christ and His Church.

This teaching, “The Ministry of Marriage,” explores this profound truth with all the simplicity of the Gospel. We will see how God designed the earthly marriage to be a powerful reﬂection of a heavenly reality, unleashing God’s divine power on earth.

1. The Divine Blueprint

Marriage as a Shadow of Christ and the Church

From eternity past, God purposed a grand design for marriage. It is not a human invention. Marriage is designed in heaven for God’s children to be a reflection, not a shadow, a tangible representation of the ultimate spiritual union. The ultimate marriage is the one between Christ (the Bridegroom) and His Church (His beloved Bride). This union will soon be consummated during the glorious Marriage Supper of the Lamb. The Supper is an event that marks the beginning of Christ’s eternal ministry (marriage) with His redeemed people.

Revelation 19:7-9: “Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen represents the righteousness of the Saints of God (the righteous acts of God’s holy people).)

Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.”

Earthly marriage, therefore, is meant to be a living parable, a visible testament to this divine mystery. As the Apostle Paul declared:

Ephesians 5:31-32: “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one ﬂesh. This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.”

This means that for an earthly marriage to be truly perfect and fulﬁlling, it must align with and reﬂect its heavenly counterpart.

2. The Roles within the Divine Reﬂection

For marriage to truly embody this divine reﬂection, both the husband and the wife have distinct, yet complementary, roles that mirror Christ and the Church.

A. The Husband: A Reﬂection of Christ

The husband is called to embody Christ in His fullness—the character and love of Christ. Just as Christ is the head of the Church, loving, nourishing, and cherishing her, so too the husband is called to love his wife with sacriﬁcial love, wisdom, and protection. The Husband is to nourish and cherish his wife as Christ does the Church.

Ephesians 5:25-29: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church—”

An ordinary and unregenerated man cannot fulfill this role. The carnal man cannot embody the nature of Christ without being born again. So a carnal man cannot fit into this role of a Christian marriage. The implication of this is that to fulﬁll this role, the husband must be born again. He must be sanctiﬁed, filled with the Holy Spirit, and walking in the light of the Word. This man must be reﬂecting Christ’s fullness and stature.

B. The Wife: A Reﬂection of the Church

The wife is called to reﬂect the Church’s relationship with Christ. Just as the Church willingly submits to Christ’s loving authority, so too is the wife called to respect and submit to her husband’s leadership in all things. And she is demanded to yield to the husband as unto the Lord.

Ephesians 5:22-24: “Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.”

To fulﬁll this role, the wife must be chaste, redeemed from sin, washed in the blood of Christ, and walking in the light, mirroring the Church’s holiness and devotion. She must be born again.

3. The Prerequisite for True Ministry: Born-Again Believers

We have seen that marriage is a profound mystery (a great secret) concerning Christ and the Church. Logically it follows that only those who are truly “in Christ” can fully participate in this divine ministry. A true Christian marriage, therefore, can only be consummated between two distinct persons;

A man who is born again, sanctiﬁed, and ﬁlled with the Holy Spirit,
And a chaste woman who has been redeemed from sin, washed in the blood, and is walking in the light as the Church of God.

We are rightly admonished in the Holy Scriptures concerning the union of believers. In 2 Corinthians 6:14: “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?”

John 3:3: “Jesus replied, ‘Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”

Those who are ungodly—living a life of sin without the fear of God—are not yet born again. When such sinners live together, though they may think and call themselves husbands and wives, in this spiritual, ministerial sense they are not truly “married.” They have no part in this profound ministry, which is reserved for the Lord and His Bride eternally.

Clearly marriage, in its deepest essence, is about Christ and His Church. The closer the two can reflect Christ and the Church in the earthly is a measure of how successful their ministry of marriage is.

4. Unleashing Divine Power: The Miraculous Potential of Godly Marriages

When the husband and his wife satisfy these divine conditions of marriage on Earth, they are endowed with tremendous power on Earth. Such faithful couples are then equipped to manifest the ultimate power of the eternal ministry of Christ long before it comes. All power is condensed within them; they can move any mountain because they are one and agree as one. Nothing they agree upon here on Earth can ever be thwarted.

They’ll function in the realm that even angels cannot fathom because the mystery they operate on is only known to God. This is the greatest and most powerful ministry ever that is available to mankind. You should ask yourself why this ministry is reserved for the Great King only in eternity after the marriage supper. Also you should wonder why, at the end of time, marriage still remained a secret—a great mystery, as the Holy Spirit said.

Godly Marriages Is The Key For Releasing The Mysteries Of Forever In Christ

In the book of 1 Corinthians 2:9-10: “But as it is written, Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have it entered into the heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him. But God has revealed them unto us by his Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deepest things of God”

Matthew 18:19-20: “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

The most profound manifestation of unity is seen in Christian marriage. This is the only union in all creation, giving among men, where two entities are inseparably one. No other religion, custom, or tradition on earth expresses this profound mystery. Christian marriages, when lived out as a true reﬂection of Christ and the Church, should be ﬁlled with miracles, signs, and wonders. It is this Holy Ministry exclusively Christ’s that will make the Holy Spirit withhold nothing back from us; including the deepest things of God.

As the two become one, they begin to showcase the power and wisdom of Christ and His transformed Church. They begin to draw from the eternal wisdom with which Christ will rule the universe forever. The wife, as chaste as the Bride of Christ, and the husband, as unique as Christ the Bridegroom, live to fulﬁll all that is written concerning the Church of God and her Savior, Jesus Christ.

This is a powerful ministry that the Church hasn’t even begun to explore its inherent deep potentials and limitless possibilities.

Children of the Most High, what are you going to do with this mystery. My dear brothers and sisters, if you are married, or aspire to be, what will be your resolution concerning this ministry. I invite you to consider this profound calling upon your life. Your marriage is not just a personal journey; it is a divine ministry. It is the eternal ministry of Jesus Christ. It is out of His profound love for us that He has allowed that we shall taste of the exclusive mnistry on earth.

The Lord sees us as His own body. Out of His purest love for us, He plans that we start now to have the glimpse of eternity. On earth our marriages should be a living testimony to the world about the glorious eternal relationship between Christ and His Church. Marriage is the conduit through which Almighty God desires to unleash His full divine power on earth.

Are you willing to surrender your marriage fully to this divine blueprint? Are you ready to allow Christ take over your marriage? That you brother truly become Christ and siter you truly become Church. And for your union to reﬂect the purity, love, and power of Christ’s divine relationship with the Church? Will you now allow our God to use us to teach Satan His manifold wisdom? Yes, God wants to use to teach satan sense, may it begin with us in marriage.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we thankYou for the sacred institution of marriage, and for revealing its profound mystery as areﬂection of Christ and His Church. We confess that too often we have viewed marriage through human eyes, rather than through Your divine lens. Today, we surrender our marriages, or our aspirations for marriage, to You.

We ask that You would empower husbands to love their wives as Christ loves His Church, and wives to submit to their husbands as the Church submits to Christ. Make us truly one, in spirit andinpurpose, so that our unions may perfectlyreﬂect Your Son and His Bride. Unleash Your divine power through our marriages, Lord, for Your glory and the advancement of Your kingdom on Earth. May our homes be filled with Your presence, Your miracles, and Your wisdom. In Jesus’mighty namewe pray, Amen.

May your marriage be a powerful testament to the eternal Ministry of Christ!
